FIKE 2005 - Évora International Short Film Festival will take place from November 18th to 26th 2005
Please read the Regulations carefully, the registration for the pre-selection implies the acceptance of the present Regulations
Conditions for pre-selection:
- Are eligible for competition purposes, short-films under the following categories: Animation, Documentary and Fiction.
- The works should be presented under one of the following formats: 16mm, 35mm and Video (Betacam SP PAL e DVCAM).
- With total running time up to 35 minutes. Exceptionally, films with total running time up to 40 minutes can be accepted for the competition.
- Works should be subtitled in English or French.
- All works must have been produced after January 1st, 2004.
- There is no limit for the number of works which each director/producer can send to the Festival.
- Participating in the Festival is free.
- The prize-winning films must stay on the Festival to the fulfilment of five Awards sessions.
- It is required to fill one registration form for each film presented to Festival. You can register on-line or download the registration form in PDF. After completing the registration, it should be signed and sent to the Festival Organization (the on-line system will ask you to print the form when completed) along with:

- Film technical data
- Two stills (can be in digital format in a CD properly identified)
- Brief Director's bio-filmography
- Dialogues list in the original language and in english. (simple text file, .txt)
- VHS or DVD preferably with subtitles in English or French
Special Competition:
To the Special Competition in the 2005 edition of FIKE, in association with the Bicentennial Commemorations of Public Library of Évora, are eligible short-films about Books or Reading, along as any aproach of all themes related to Books and Libraries.
To this special section, we will accept films produced in the last 5 years, under the categories of Animation, Documentary, Fiction and Experimental Films and with total running time up to 35 minutes.
Films in this Special Competition may enter the International Competition, as long as they fill the requirements according to general Festival's Regulations
Deadlines:
- Sending copies to pre-selection: July 1st, 2005
- Notification of selection decision: October 15th, 2005
- Exhibition copies acceptance: November 15th, 2005
- Devolution/forwarding of exhibition copies, in the following fifteen days, after the Festival
Awards:
International Competition:
- Best Fiction
- Best Documentary
- Best Animation
- Best European Short-Film
- Super-Short (up to 5 minutes running time)
- Audience Award
National Competition:
- Best Portuguese Short-Film
- Best Portuguese Expression Film
Don Quijote Award:
- The Jury from the International Federation of Film Societies will choose the Best Short-Film, to be awarded to the Don Quijote Award, which guarantees the selection of the film for the International Festival of Film Societies, to take place in Italy on June 2006.
Jury:
The Festival Jury will be chosen among Film Professionals and Specialists that will be responsible for the choice of awarded films in the different categories. The members of the Jury will be posted in the Festival Website in due time.
It is reserved to the Festival Jury, the right not to attribute an award on any category, as well as decide the attribution of Special Mentions.
Important arrangements:
The Festival Sponsors may also include a prize money or equipment to the awarded films, or the possibility of acquisition of television rights or exhibition in digital platform.
The FIKE Awards will have exhibitions in the week following the Festival.
All Directors and team members of the participating films are invited to the Festival, being guaranteed free access to all activities.
All films presented in the Competition will be covered by special insurance from its reception in the Festival until its return/forwarding.
All VHS or DVD sent to the pre-selection will not be returned and will integrate the FIKE archives, being its promoters authorized to its use for cultural or educative purposes. They will only be returned to the sender if clearly requested, by written statement upon registration, being all return costs on addressee's account, which must supply packaging and mailing stamps for devolution.
Film excerpts may still be used for Festival promotional purposes as well as its use on the internet, publicity or other promotional way. To any other use the Festival will require written authorization from the copyright holder.

Notes:
- Any material sent by e-mail will not be accepted.
- All materials to pre-selection will be sent on sender expense and free of all responsibilities to the Festival (mail or customs).
- All materials sent on charge will be rejected.
- All materials sent must contain the following mention: "SEM VALOR COMERCIAL, PARA FINS CULTURAIS / NO COMMERCIAL VALUE, FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES" and the declared value for customs purposes must be smaller than 5 USD. The packing must contain a pro-form invoice along with all materials needed for the pre-selection.
- The sender will pay for the films transport to the Festival, and the Festival will be responsible for the films return.
- If the film will be represented on the Festival by its Director or other team member, the copy can be personally delivered until 24 hours before exhibition.
Exceptional Situations:
The Festival Organization reserves the right to:
- Insert the necessary changes to the present Regulations, giving knowledge to all the interested parts
- Decide on the acceptance of any film which does not fully comply with the present Regulations
- Decide on unforeseen cases
