The History of Cinema - specially the one of the documentary - is deeply connected to the evolution of the technical supports and means of film production. The last great revolution happened in the sixties when cameras became light and portable enough to record out of the studio and generated movements such as Direct Cinema in the USA or the "verité" cinema in France.

From my point of view, the second great revolution is happening now, with the most recent arrival of high-definition cameras at average prices. To reflect in the middle of a revolution is not always an easy task. But it is possible and above all, desirable. It's what we are trying to do.

David Pope, the Director of Education for NYFA UK, will discuss what aspects of film training should be concentrated on to train directors, how can directing be taught and how does a short film director develop their career.

David’s first short film, SKULLS, ANGELS MOM AND DAD, was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival amongst others. After directing a music video in collaboration with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth for the ROOT project David directed his first feature film, the award winning drama MILES FOM NOWHERE. MILES FROM NOWHERE was shot on the road between New York and Las Vegas. David has also worked extensively as a first assistant director, clients include MTV, VH1 and the BBC. David is currently writing the screenplay for his second feature PRETENCE and in addition is attached as director to three other feature film projects in development in the US and UK.
