The month of November is marked by the return of FIKE 2007 - Évora International Short Film Festival. The Auditorium of the University of Évora will be the centre of the Festival which promises to be the greatest and the most participated ever. From November 16th to 24th, 101 films from the five continents will compete for the Fiction, Animation and Documentary Prizes.
Films and guests from such different countries as Israel and Iran, United Kingdom and Uganda, will fulfill the nights of a week where Cinema will mark the rhythm of Concerts, Workshops and Master Classes. Its a Culture and Art Festival open to everyone.
The Film Society of the University of Évora and the S.O.I.R. Joaquim António de Aguiar, in partnership with the MixReel, organize a great cinematographic event. For all ages and all publics, the Festival is one of the most recognized events in Évora.
The activities of FIKE spread from Cinema Sessions for Schools to a Workshop for Artistic Development by David Pope (Director, CEO of the New Producers Alliance, with work developed for Sonic Youth, Paul Newman, BBC, MTV and many others) to a Podcast Workshop directed by João Cerqueira (Photography Director, Director and Professor) and a Master Class by Jorge Campos (Responsible for the programme "Odisseia das Imagens" – exhibited in RTP 2 and which incorporated the audiovisual programming of Porto 2001 – European Culture Capital, Director, Journalist and University Professor).
The main and remarkable figures of FIKE 2007 will be the Portuguese Actress Beatriz Batarda, the Iranian Director Kanran Shirdel (Director and Professor, John Houstons Production Assistant and considered to be a main presence in the New Iranian Cinema) and Leonardo Autera (renowned Italian Photographer, disciple of Helmut Newton who has devoted himself to Photo-journalism and Artistic Photography, he exhibited his work in more than 50 countries) these last two will come to Portugal for the first time to present their work in a national absolute premiere in Évora.
November 20th will be marked by the presence of the Nobel Prize José Saramago who will come expressly to Portugal for the presentation of the film "Jangada de Pedra – Viagem ao nosso passado mais remoto" (The Stone Raft - A journey to tour more distant past) directed by Rietske van Raay and Rui Dias. This event is organized in partnership with the University of Évora.
In this same day is scheduled the presence of Amin Maalouf and Jordi Savall whose Honorary Degree Doctorate by the University of Évora will take place in that day as well.Évora will also be the centre of Worldwide Film Societies as it welcomes the Executive Committee of the IFFS – International Federation of Film Societies, worldwide Association of Cinematographic Culture and non-commercial cinema associations.
FIKE, in partnership with Pé de Xumbo and Sociedade Harmonia Eborense, will present a set of concerts which will definitely mark Espaço Celeiros: Legendary Tigerman, Lello Minsky and the Boite Piano (Manuel João Vieira) to celebrate this years return of FIKE NIGHTS.
