Lisbon, International Taxi Capital

The Special Competition FIKE/IVM is organized by FIKE - Évora International Short Film Festival in partnership with the International Taxi Festival.

It will take place from 20 to 22nd September, at the French-Portuguese Institute Auditorium (Av. Luis Bívar, 91 – Lisbon) where the 15 selected films under the general theme of Taxi will be presented. Films involving the taxi driver, the passenger and the city will be presented under a special competition.

We received for this initiative, 166 shorts from 36 different countries, among which are Portugal, France/Afghanistan, Germany, Spain, Israel, Iran, Argentina, Uganda, Bulgaria and Poland. The winner will be announced at last day, 22nd septeber and will be awarded with one trophy and a prize money of 750 euros.

The International Taxi Festival is an initiative of IVM – City on the Move Institute (Paris), under high patronage of Jacques Barrot – VP of European Commission and Michel Delebarre, President of European Region Committee, in partnership with Veolia Transport, Gfk Institut, Metro and Municipality of Lisbon.

Under the responsibility of Richard Darbéra (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and José Manuel Viegas (Technical Superior Institute) anInternational Seminar will take place at the Gulbenkian Foundation, a large number of cultural events will be organized within the International Taxi Festival.

The Taxi in the European week for mobility

The International Taxi festival, for the first time in Portugal, takes place during the European week for mobility, and will include a large number of cultural and scientific activities, focusing on the Taxi potential in solving mobility problems and as a future solution for urban mobility.

Also up for discussion, is the role of the Taxi in towns and metropolitan areas, presenting it as a solution for the future, as a commitment between public and private transportation.

From Lisbon to Évora

All the films presented in this special competition in the French-Portuguese Institute, will be screened at FIKE 2007 – Évora International Short Film Festival, which will take place in the world heritage town of ÉVora next November (16th to 24th). Organized by the University of Évora Film Society and SOIR Joaquim António de Aguiar, in partnership with Mixreel, and with support from Municipality and University of Évora and ICA among others, will take place at University of Évora Auditorium.

In total, for the sixth edition of FIKE, 2166 submissions where received from 74 different countries. The Official Selection for International Competition will be announced early October.
