Alentejo Places in Portuguese Literature
The exhibition Lugares Alentejanos na Literatura Portuguesa is the result of an Estação Imagem project which aims to present the region and the national Literature.
The exhibition gathers about 80 works by 12 photographers and two designers, being that each of them takes as starting point a literary work focused in the Alentejo. Fourteen writers from Florbela Espanca to José Saramago or Miguel Sousa Tavares are revisited by the look of some of the today´s most known Portuguese photojournalists and designers. The exhibition, as well as the book-catalogue, also includes 5 photos by the veteran photographer from Évora Eduardo Nogueira (1898 – 1969) with texts by Vanessa Rato.
The project foresees the exhibition to be presented in the places of the Alentejo mentioned by the writers and after by the photographers and designers. It is the case of Évora where one of the works mentioned in the project, the novel Aparição by Virgílio Ferreira, takes place.
Estação Imagem
ESTAÇÃO IMAGEM is a cultural association without lucrative aims, created to study, promote the knowledge of all aspects related to image, specially photography, through documental projects. The interaction with projects from different visual arts assume particular importance by the questions raised out of specifically by photographic works.
Even if with cross-border and universal horizons the Estação Imagem, choosing to set itself at the building of the old train-station of Mora, totally assumes its roots in the Alentejo and is engaged in giving priority to local interest projects as the present exhibition Lugares Alentejanos na Literatura Portuguesa” (Alentejo Places in the Portuguese Literature) (2009).
With a permanent activity the Estação Imagem proposes itself to help the Alentejo to overcome the limits of interiority and geographic isolation.
