CECI N'EST PAS UNE MOUCHE (This Is Not A Fly)
Director: Carlos Fraiha N. de A. Barbosa
Running time: 02′00″
Category: Animation
Country: United Kingdom
Synopsis:
A story about a man in an art gallery, a painted fly that seems to be playing mind games on him, and an angry security camera that will not let him get too close to find out what is going on. 'Ceci n'est pas une mouche' is a story inspired by the painting 'Saint Catherine of Alexandria' by Carlo Crivelli and how it evokes the idea behind Magritte's 'Ceci n'est pas une pipe' (this is not a pipe). In the 15th century, Crivelli painted a life-size fly next to a 30cm tall saint, and it seems both artists were playing with the theme of how images can be deceiving, of representation versus reality. The film was completed over two months as part of the Transcriptions: Animation project for the National Gallery, London, and is a graduation project for the Postgraduate Diploma in Character Animation at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design/University of the Arts London.
